Fuqua Center for Late-Life Depression

The Fuqua Center provides a variety of clinical services for the older adult. These include outpatient services, community clinics, group therapy, referral services, and telemedicine services.

Community Clinics

The Fuqua Center offers clinical services in the community. A nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist is available to follow elderly residents who are living in retirement and assisted living facilities. Services available include screening for depression and dementia, referral either to the Fuqua Center for Late-Life Depression or other appropriate treatment, and follow-up of patients. Follow-up may include medication management, individual and group therapy, and staff and family education on how best to interact and care for residents. Educational programs are also provided for residents, staff and families on topics related to aging, quality of life, depression and dementia.

Telemedicine Services

Telemedicine is a cutting-edge approach to psychiatry that allows patients in outlying areas who cannot reach the Center to access psychiatric services in the comfort of their local practitioner's office. Telemedicine involves using a computer complete with video and audio for evaluation and follow-up with a geriatric psychiatrist. This service is covered by Medicare. Telemedicine services are now available and are expanding.
