Wesley Woods Geriatric Hospital

Wesley Woods Geriatric Hospital is a leading hospital for senior care in Atlanta and the Southeast, where elderly patients find hope, help and supportive geriatric health care. Our geriatric hospital has 100 beds and provides our elderly patients with specialty services including acute medical care, long term acute care, geriatric rehabilitation and physical therapy, secure inpatient psychiatric units, and a wound care clinic.

Clinical geriatric hospital staff of physicians, nurses, therapists and case managers work together to provide our elderly patients with friendly surroundings and experienced knowledge and services.

Inpatient Psychiatry

Wesley Woods Geriatric Hospital has two secure medical psychiatric units. Both are dedicated to providing psychiatric care for senior patients.

The geriatric psychiatry unit is a 22-bed, smoke-free environment designed for seniors with general psychiatric issues including depression and mild memory issues. An interdisciplinary team experienced in elderly psychiatric treatment collaborates to help return patients in the geriatric psychiatry unit to their best possible state of health.

Like the geriatric psychiatry unit, the neuropsychiatry unit contains 22 beds and is a smoke-free facility. The neuropsychiatry unit is designed to evaluate and treat seniors who experience memory and/or behavioral problems related to dementia or other cognitive impairments.

Transitions Senior Program

The Transitions Senior Program is an outpatient program for elderly adults (65 or older) who have emotional concerns that interfere with quality of life such as withdrawal, isolation, grief, depression and loneliness.

Seniors that are referred to the program have a complete psychosocial assessment to ensure that the program addresses their needs. Assessment includes discussion of current problems, observable changes in daily activities, medical/emotional problems and issues that might be of concern to the patient. Following the assessment, a personalized treatment plan and schedule is established.

The Transitions Program for seniors provides elders with day plan activities and therapies such as grief and anger management, cognitive therapy, problem solving, coping skills, leisure planning and relaxation, and relapse prevention. Lunch is provided daily to participants and transportation is available free of charge within a 25-mile radius of the Transitions Senior Program facility.
