Emory University was recognized for leaderships and efforts to change workplace policies and culture again in 2015, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

“Employers who offer adoption benefits understand that the initial needs of adoptive families are no different than families formed biologically – it helps ensure all families are treated equally by companies,” said Rita Soronen, President and CEO of the Dave Thomas Foundation. “We are elated to see even more companies in the last year implement adoption-friendly and foster care-friendly benefits.”

Emory University reimburses Eligible Employees for Qualified Adoption Expenses up to $5,000 per finalized adoption under the Emory University Adoption Program Plan, which is limited to two adoptions throughout employment, to total a maximum of $10,000 over two adoptions. In addition, the University has implemented a separate policy to provide taxable benefits to reimburse employees eligible to participate in this plan for certain expenses incurred for the adoption of a child of a spouse or child of a same-sex domestic partner.

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is a national nonprofit public charity dedicated exclusively to finding permanent homes for the more than 130,000 children waiting in North America’s foster care systems. Created by Wendy’s® founder Dave Thomas who was adopted, the Foundation implements evidence-based, results-driven national service programs, foster care adoption awareness campaigns and innovative grant making.
