The Metro East Center of the Georgia Learning Resources System (GLRS), All About Developmental
Disabilities (AADD), and the Developmental Disabilities Council of DeKalb County are sponsoring a Special
Needs Summer Recreational Fair at North DeKalb Mall On January 23, 2010. The fair will provide parents
with an opportunity to meet with camp vendors that focus on therapeutic recreation, academic enrichment,
social skills, sensory integration, and adapted sports, as well as traditional camp activities. Some of the
camps are day camps and others are overnight camps. Many of the programs are inclusive while others are
specifically designed to accommodate the needs of individuals with disabilities. The event will be held at
North Dekalb Mall from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
For parents unable to attend the January 23rd recreational fair, the Metro East GLRS also publishes a free
Special Needs Directory for Activities, Recreation and Respite, an annual resource of recreational programs
for special needs children and young adults, along with respite resources for parents. Metro East GLRS does
not recommend or endorse any camps. The directory is a starting point for parents in their search for
activities. Parents are advised to check references and to visit the camps whenever possible.
GLRS is a network of 17 centers throughout Georgia that provide training and resources to educators and
parents of students with disabilities. For more information on GLRS, the Special Needs Summer Recreational
