As a new school year approaches, parents are always busy rushing around purchasing school supplies,
buying new school clothes and preparing their children to start school. It is also the time parents must
make the difficult choice of what to do with their children after the school day. The Metro YMCA is the
answer for approximately 6000 parents with over 120 licensed sites across the metro area. Traditional
YMCA after-school programs offer out-of-school care for children during the school term (Monday through
Friday). YMCA after-school care is available in DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Forsyth, and Newton counties, as
well as in the Atlanta Public Schools.
The Metro-Atlanta YMCA Prime Time after-school enrichment program strives to provide holistic
programming in a nurturing environment delivering quality services so children develop intellectually, socially,
emotionally, and physically. Family and community involvement are strongly encouraged to support program
goals. YMCA after-school programs give children a chance to become more self-reliant; develop
relationships; gain autonomy; develop, enhance and enrich their skills in a safe supervised place.
YMCA Prime Time enrichment programs include academic support, homework time, arts and humanities,
literacy, science and technology along with service learning projects. Social competencies include resolving
conflicts and developing the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Family
involvement, mentoring, and community collaborations are vital program components. The program also
focuses on health. Physical activity components, Youth Fit for Life™, Atlanta Falcons Fitness
Zones or HOP Sports activities are offered at specific sites.
