Banking is a highly regulated industry. A bank is a financial institution that accepts deposits and channels those deposits into lending activities. There are several types of banks and each has a specific role and function. The most common are commercial banks which can be used by individuals or businesses to keep money in a checking or savings account or to receive loans or credit. An individual must be at least 18 years old to open their own bank account. A minor can open a bank account with the help of a guardian.
